First Scientists explored our planet's pharmacopoeia for bioactive natural products (the constituents of "herbs" - considered broadly to incl. fungi). Over half of the worlds clinical drugs are derived from these natural products, obtained by isolating/extracting target compounds from their organic matrix. Matrix support compounds can play valuable auxiliary roles in health outcomes. This complex information, known experientially to our ancestors, has only recently become apparent to modern scientists (re)discovering the synergistic effects of polypharmacology in humans.
